81 Pakistanis are Listed in the Top 2 Percent of Scientists Around the World

The fact that a number of Pakistani scientists working at different universities have been listed among the top two (2) percent of scientists worldwide is an achievement for the entire country. These professors were chosen on the basis of their research work. And this list is compiled by American’s Stanford University.

The List at Stanford University includes 11 Quaid-i-Azam University professors.

In its global ranking of the world’s best scientists, America’s Stanford University mentioned 81 Pakistani scientists.

In a global list assembled by Prof. John Ioannidis of Stanford University and his team, as many as 11 professors from Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad were among the top 2 percent of scientists. The list has the names of 159,683 individuals from all fields of science.

Named chosen on the basis of best research work!

According to the data, a list of the top 2% of scientists working across the globe has recently been compiled by Stanford University, in which a number of Pakistani researchers from various universities were included in the list for their best research work.



11 Professors from Quid-i-Azam University

  1. Dr. Bilal Haider Abbasi of Biotechnology.
  2. Zabta Khan Shinwari of Plant Sciences.
  3. Mushtaq Ahmad of Plant Sciences.
  4. Amir Ali Shah of Microbiology.
  5. Riffle Nasim Malik of Environmental Sciences.
  6. Muhammad Rashid Khan of Biochemistry.
  7. Masood Khan of Maths.
  8. Afzal Shah.
  9. Aamer Saeed of Chemistry.
  10. Abdul Haq of Statistics.
  11. QAU scientists whose names have emerged on the list.

3 Professors from the University of Punjab

Three professors from the University of Punjab, including Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sharif, Dean, Faculty of Science (ranked in the field of Nuclear and Particle Physics), Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Dean, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences (ranked in the field of Information and Library Science), and were also ranked in the Stanford list of researchers among the other researchers on the list.



Proud Moment for nation!

Prof. Dr. Bilal Abbasi, General Secretary of the QAU Academic Staff Association, whose name is also shown in the list, said that it is a proud moment for the nation that the top two percent of scientists worldwide have been named by a number of Pakistani scientists working at various universities.

Message by Dr. Bilal Abbasi

In his message, Dr. Bilal called on the government to invest more resources to Pakistan’s top-ranked university to address its problems and improve its global ranking.

On the grounds of an international review of their published papers, all these authors were chosen. Recently, a paper on this list was published in PLOS Biology.
