Saudi Arabia will adopt a new system starting from next year to detect the Ramadan and Shawwal crescent, a Saudi media organisation reported.

New Clock tower in  Makkah will be used for Moon sighting

As of next Ramadan 1441 Hijri, the new clock tower in Mecca will be an Islamic observatory for citizens and Saudi expats, through which we will be able to spot the Ramadan, Shawwal and other months crescents, as it will have a collection of advanced telescopes. The Tower will be the first place in Islamic world for observation of moon sighting

The clock tower will be monitoring next year ,1441 Hijri, both the Ramadan and Shawwal moons, making it the first integrated observatory launched by Makkah.
