Children under the age of 12 will no Longer be Allowed in the Masjid al-Haram

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that

children under the age of 12 will not be allowed to enter the Grand Mosque.

The statement said,

Children under the age of 12 do not meet the requirements of Umrah and prayer permits. Hence, the Etemarna or Tawakalna app will not issue Umrah or prayer permits in their name.

What other conditions are required to enter the Masjid al-Haram? Are the rumours stating that permits are no longer required true? Can children be left in the outer courtyard of the Mosque?

Conditions for Umrah or Prayer Permit

Umrah permits will be issued to persons aged 12 years and above on condition that they have taken both doses of Corona vaccine or are exempt from the vaccine requirement.

They further added,

The health record in the Tawaklana app comes at the first opportunity in case of taking both doses of the vaccine, while the record of those who are exempt from the vaccine is also available in the Tawaklana app.

Age should be According to the Christian Calendar

The ministry said that children who have completed 12 years of age according to the Christian calendar will be issued a permit for Umrah or prayers. The Hijri calendar will not be considered in this regard.

Is a Permit Necessary to Enter the Masjid al-Haram?

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah says that

nobody would be allowed to enter the Masjid al-Haram for Umrah or prayers without an effective permit.

A rumour is circulating on social media that the condition of the permit to enter the Masjid al-Haram has been removed and now the only condition is to be vaccinated. Such rumours are completely baseless. An entry permit is required to enter the Masjid al-Haram.
