Following are 6 major facts of Cave of Hira everybody needs to know about.
1). Cave of Hira has another name
The cave of Hira situated 2 miles away from the Holy Kaabah is also known as Jabal-e-Noor and Jabal-e-Hira which means the mountain of light. It is the most visited Ziyarat place in Makkah.
2). The cave is a camel hump
The Cave of Hira is a small cave which actually possesses a shape that resembles a camel’s hump. It has the following dimensions,
- It is 4 meters in length
- It is 0.5 meter in width.
- It has a slope of 380 meters
- It has a height of 500 meters.
- It covers an area of about 5.2 square meters.
3). The first revelation was here
On the blessed night on which the first revelations of the Holy Quran was sent to Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) which is stated by Quran, the Night of Power were sent at the Cave of Hira in Ramadan, 610 CE. Before the revelations, Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to have good dreams which were linked with the happening of revelations. 4). Angel Jibrael (AS) came to this cave
At the time of Tahajjud on a blessed night, an angel appeared in the Cave of Hira looking like a man and said to the Prophet (PBUH), “Read”
Upon which He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated that:
“I can’t read.”
The angel requested Him to read, two more times and all of the times He told the angel that He is unable to read. Lastly, the angel spoke,
“Recite in the name of your Lord who created. Created man from a clinging substance. Recite, and your lord is the most generous. Who taught a man that which he knew not.” [Quran 96: 1-5]
5). Prophethood started from here
After the first revelation, when the Prophethood of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) moved out from the Cave of Hira, when he was halfway down from the mountain a voice entered His ears;
“O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of God, and I am Jibrael”
And from here the Prophethood of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) started.
6). It was a tough night
When Jibrael told Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وسلم) that he is the messenger of God, Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)looked at him and started moving forward. But to his surprise, the angel was present at the horizon in every direction where He put his sight. When Jibrael got away, Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) got frightened enough and went to his home where He (صلى الله عليه وسلم)asked Khadija (RA) to cover Him to get relaxed.
