Taif is a historical city of Saudi Arabia, it is located in the Makkah province.

When Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) invited people of Makkah to accept the Islamic religion, the leaders of Quraysh rejected him, even they tortured those Muslims who converted to Islam and then they boycotted Muslims for three years to punish them. Seeking Support Beyond the Citizens of Makkah
Hence, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) needed to reach out and seek support and shelter for amateur Muslims beyond the city of Makkah.
Taif was populated by the Thaqif, the second largest tribe in Saudi Arabia. When Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) began his journey, he was full of hope as if the Thaqif would respond favorably to the call of Islam that would lead to a new, happier phase in the history of Islam.
He proposed the idea of Islam assuming that they will believe him to have faith in One God (Allah) hence, for constant ten days the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) spoke to one of their chiefs after another but none of them gave him a word of encouragement. People of Taif Pelted Stones on Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)
Unfortunately, Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) had to face rejection and insult and not only did they refuse to listen to his message, but also they threw stones at him and drove him out of their town. Prayers of Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) Prayed for the People of Taif
Eventually, Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) stopped on a rock and started praying. Allah responded to his prayers and sent Angel JIBREEL to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), JIBREEL asked him that if he wished, Allah could order an angel to collapse the two mountains surrounding the people of Taif and crush them in a result to punish them for hurting him but Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was so kind and gracious, he did not ask Allah to punish the people of Taif. ADDAS – A Young Christian Came to Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) for Help
While Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was sitting there on the rock, raising his hands to Allah, the two owners of the orchard saw him and sent their slave with a bunch of grapes, they were related from Quraysh people but offered it to the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) as a feed for a traveler. ADDAS Served Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) with the Grapes
The slave’s name was Addas and he was a young Christian man. When Addas served Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) with the grapes, he heard the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) says, “In the name of Allah,” before he ate. Addas was surprised and curious because he never heard anyone saying such words before. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) asked Addas where he was from and Addas answered that he was from Nineveh. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “The land of Jonah the Just, son of Matta.”
The young man was bewildered that this man, Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), knew of Prophet Jonah (Peace Be Upon Him), so he asked from the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) who he was actually and how he had such knowledge, The Prophet(Peace Be Upon Him) responded, “Jonah is my brother. He was a prophet and I am a prophet too.”
Addas was amazed, he knew that this man indeed had to be a prophet. Addas kissed the Prophet’s (Peace Be Upon Him) head and hands and he immediately accepted Islam. Today when we observe Taif we cannot deny appreciating our Prophet’s (Peace Be Upon Him) vision, patience, and mercy. Now Taif has a population of 1,200,000 people, predominantly Muslims. Taif is the summertime capital of Saudi Arabia, and it is known for its grapes, pomegranate, figs, roses, and honey. It does mean that God blessed them will all the beauty and nature gifts.
