A little while before the sunrise which may be equivalent to the time sufficing two Rak’ah of Nafl prayers, one should proceed to Mina from Muzdalifah. To delay after this time is contrary to the Sunnah.
We have enlisted below the number of obligations that need to be performed and other related clarifications to be specifically taken care of by the Hajj pilgrims;
Q2). Do you know which place the Hajj pilgrims need to move after reaching Mina & what to perform?
Today on reaching Mina, the first thing to do is the Ramy at Jamaratul-Aqabah which is Wajib (obligatory) on this very day. One should remember that there are three places in Mina known as Jamaraat and seven pebbles (small stones) are pelted or thrown on each of these Jamaraat.
Q3). Do you know the exact location & where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Jamaraat are located?
The first Jamaraat is near the large Masjid of Mina i.e. near the Masjid-e-Khaif which is called Jamaratul-Oola. The second Jamaraat is next to the first and is called Jamaratul-Wusta. The third Jamaraat is situated right at the end of Mina which is called Jamaratul-Aqabah.
Q4). Do you know which Jamaraat, the pebbles or small stones will be pelted on 10th of Zul-Hijjah?
On the 10th Day of Zul-Hijjah Ramy (pelting of pebbles) will be performed only at this Jamaratul-Aqabah with seven pebbles.
Q5). What Ramy literally means & what it has the importance in the light of Islam?
Ramy linguistically means to pelt stones or pebbles. This Ramy is observed as a memorial of that approved practice of Sayyidna Ibrahim (A.S) which he did at the time he took his son Sayyidna Ismail (A.S) for offering him as a sacrifice and then Satan tried to mislead him. At that time Sayyidna Ibrahim (A.S) repelled Satan by throwing pebbles at him.
Q6). Is collecting stones from Muzdalifah Obligatory or yet the stones can be collected from other places as well?
For the Ramy of the First Day at Jamaratul-Aqabah, it is Mustahab to bring seven pebbles from Muzdalifah, yet collecting them from anywhere else is also permissible. But one should not collect pebbles from around the Jamaraat; because the pebbles lying near the Jamaraat are reprobated in the sight the Allah as clearly stated in a Hadith. The pebbles thrown by those pilgrims whose Hajj has been approved by Allah are lifted up.
Q7). Is it prohibited or disallowed to use polluted pebbles or stones for the purpose of Ramy?
It is Makrooh (disliked) to use polluted pebbles for the purpose of Ramy. Therefore it is better to wash the pebbles before pelting. And if it is not known with certainty that the pebbles are polluted then the usage of such pebbles is allowed.
Q8). What should be the size of the Pebbles or stones?
The pebbles should be equal to a large chickpea in size. And It is also permissible if it is equal to a seed of a date in size. However, it is Makrooh (disliked) to perform Ramy with large stones.
Q9). What are the timings of performing Ramy or Jamaratul-Aqabah on the 10th of Zul-Hijjah?
The best time for the Ramy of Jamaratul-Aqabah on the 10th Day of Zul-Hijjah in from sunrise until mid-day.
Q10). Can Ramy be performed from Mid-day till sunset and what’s the ruling after sunset?
It is also permissible from mid-day till sunset. However it is Makrooh to do it after sunset but for the ailing, weak person and females it is not Makrooh even after sunset.
Q11). Why the Ramy is being allowed after sunrise till sunset?
Nowadays of a concourse of people becomes so intense that some casualties have even occurred in the attempt to perform Ramy before noon. Therefore the permissibility to perform Ramy up to sunset should be availed of.
Q12). What about in case the women not convenient, Ailing and weak males perform Ramy after sunset?
If women do not find it convenient before sunset, they shall perform Ramy after sunset. Likewise, ailing and weak males may also perform Ramy after Maghrib but they should not miss it.
Q13). Where one should stand while pelting or throwing a stone at Jamaratul-Aqabah?
One should stand at least five arm’s length away from Jamaratul-Aqabah though it is harmless to stand at a further distance.
Q14). Which hand to be used while pelting stone and what Hajj pilgrims should recite during Ramy?
One should then pelt pebbles one by one at the Jamaraat using the right hand while pronouncing AKBAR BISMILLAH ALLAH with the throw each pebble.
And if someone remembers then this should be recited as well.
(I throw this pebble) in order to debase Satan and to please the most Gracious Allah. O Allah, render my Hajj approved and accord your approbation to my effort and forgive my sins.
Q15). What in case, if someone had pelted all seven stones in one throw?
If some had pelted all seven pebbles in one throw, it will be counted as one and he will have to complete the count of seven pebbles.
Q16). When reciting Talbiya should be discontinued?
Talbiya is to be discontinued as soon as one starts Ramy at Jamaratul-Aqabah. Likewise, Talbiya will not be recited thereafter.
Q17). Should the Hajj pilgrims stay further at Jamaratul-Aqabah after pelting stone?
On this date having a further stay after the Ramy at Jamaratul-Aqabah for the purpose of offering invocation is not Sunnah. The Pilgrim should return to his tent (place of stay) after Ramy and to perform Ramy at other Jamaraat on this day is merely out of ignorance.
