National Cricket Championship for Saudi Expats in 11 Cities of KSA

Under the auspices of the Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) and the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF), a national cricket championship is underway for the saudi expats in 11 major cities in Saudi Arabia. The National Cricket Championship, which started on Sunday, February 14, 2021 will continue till April, 2021. About 7,000 registered players and more than 450 officials are taking part in it. However, Softball cricket tournaments, workers’ camp activation and social cricket programs will also continue throughout Saudi Arabia for the entire year. How many Players are taking Part in this Competition?

The general manager of the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation said that the Saudi Sports Forward Federation and the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation are jointly organizing a ‘national cricket championship’ for the Saudi Expats. More than 6,800 players from 369 teams and 15 cricket associations are taking part in the mega competition, which began on January 29, 2021 and will continue for 11 weeks until April, 2021.

When do Matches Take Place?

Matches are being played every Friday on 106 grounds in 45 cities. However, 456 volunteers are taking care of the arrangements and helping the matches continue smoothly.

What will be the Format for these Matches?

T20 format will be used in this tournament such that each team has an innings of a maximum of 20 overs. Host cities include the followings:

  1. Riyadh,
  2. Dammam,
  3. Jubail,
  4. Jeddah,
  5. Medina,
  6. Yanbu,
  7. Tabuk,
  8. Abha,
  9. Jizan,
  10. Al Qaseem and
  11. Najran.
  12. Softball Cricket Tournament

Along with the national cricket championship, the tape ball cricket tournament will also be held in two phases. The first will be between February and April 2021 and then between October and November 2021. Participating host cities will include Riyadh, Dammam, Jubail, Jeddah, Tabuk, Makkah, Yanbu, Jazan, Frasan Island, Taif and Hail.

Workers’ Camp Activities

Workers’ camp activities will be held from February to December, 2021 in Jeddah, Yanbu, Medina, Tabuk, Riyadh, Dammam, Al-Laith, Al-Wajah, Al-Qanfida and Sharma camps, including softball cricket and a cricket simulator.

When will the Social Cricket Programs be held?

The social cricket programs will be held in Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam and Yanbu between February and April, 2021.

What is the Reason for the Arrangement of such Activities?

The initiative is part of the Saudi Sports for All Federation’s ongoing mission to encourage and facilitate a healthy and active lifestyle for the saudi expats living in Saudi Arabia. The cricket events are aimed at providing opportunities for physical activity to the saudi expats in the country, especially from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan where cricket is very popular.

Involvement of thousands of People through these Activities

Thousands of people are expected to take part in the event, which is supported by the Ministry of Sports and the Saudi Olympic Committee. All matches and activities are being strictly adhered to under the guidelines of Covid-19 provided by the Ministry of Health. Prince Khalid bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, President of Sports for All Federation, said in his message that through the National Cricket Championship, sports activities have been extended to different parts of Saudi Arabia and thousands of people have been included.

History of Cricket in Saudi Arabia

Cricket has been played in Saudi Arabia for decades, especially in the 1970s, when leagues began to form, the number continued to grow. In 2003, the state became an associate member of the Asian Cricket Council and a member of the International Cricket Council. A national cricket team was also formed that year.

The Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation was established in 2020 under the auspices of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports. Prince Saud bin Mashaal Al Saud became its first president and chairman of the board of directors.
