The recent analysis exhibits that the said increasing trend of traffic accidents are due to the increased mobile usage while driving a car.

According to the published statistics of traffic accidents in Saudi Arabia, approximately every minute car accidents take place on average in the country.

Comparison Of Death Tolls Between Year 2016 & 2017
In 2017 alone, the country recorded over 7,000 deaths related to car accidents. In 2016, 9,000 car accident fatalities – a number that translates to 12% of the total deaths – were recorded.

Mobile Phones and Bluetooth Devices are not Allowed While Driving
Based on the above ratio of increasing road accidents, the Government of Saudi Arabia has already worked to decrease this rate by introducing some strict traffic rules on using cell phone.
They held a heavy fine (Penalty fee), if Saudi citizens and Saudi expats are captured using mobiles during driving, not only this but also touching the cell phone or using Bluetooth devices (hands-free devices) are also banned.
This all has been introduced to ensure the safety of the Saudi citizens and the Saudi expats living inside the Kingdom.

“EVEN TOUCHING THE MOBILE PHONE WHILE DRIVING WILL BE CONSIDERED A TRAFFIC VIOLATION FOR WHICH MOTORISTS WILL BE FINED SAR.150 ($40) FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE. WITH SECOND OFFENSES, THE FINE INCREASES TO SAR. 300 ($80) AND VIOLATORS RISK BEING ARRESTED AND JAILED. “

Even statistically a recent survey conducted by The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) found that “Over 161,242 traffic accidents take place annually in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to the use of mobile phones while driving.”

In the recent study, SASO also found that both airbags and the use of seat belts have significantly reduced the death rates in traffic accidents. In fact, wearing a seat belt brings accident rates down by 40% to 60 %.
