According to Saudi news portal Sabq, Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz had issued a decree granting Saudi nationality to brilliant foreign professionals, to attract the brilliant minds from around the world to the kingdom as it seeks to diversify its economy.
Who will be given Saudi nationality?
According to the royal decree issued nearly two months ago, the Saudi nationality will be granted to brilliant foreign professionals in different disciplines such as,
- Islamic scholars.
- Experts in nuclear and renewable energy.
- Computer science.
- Artificial intelligence.
According to the reports of Sabq,
“It also covers domains needed by Saudi Arabia due to its geographical nature such as distinguished scientists in the desalination technology and helping in attaining objectives of expediting development,”
What is the need of giving nationality to professionals?
As per the Saudi Vision 2030, an ambitious scheme launched in 2016 with the aim of diversifying the oil-dependent Saudi economy and promoting national development to the benefit of the country and citizens the nationalization process is the need of time keeping it as it will draw distinguished and creative people from around the world to come, live and work in Saudi Arabia.
When will the nationality decree be implemented?
No news about when the decree will be acted upon. No procedure, timeframe, criteria’s have been announced. Further, it is not clear yet if the nationalization process will also comprise non-Muslim professionals.
