Sultan Noor-ud-Din Zengi, A Great Islamic leader who Protected the Grave of Holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

Sultan Noor Ad-Din was a pious and greatest general of the Islamic world, he was born in February 1118 in Mosul city of Syria. He was a member of the Turkish zinged dynasty which ruled the Syria province of the Seljuk Empire.

Noor Uddin was an Arabic name translating to “Light of Religion” Noor means light and din means religion. Noor Uddin was the second son of Imad ad-Din Zengi was a Muslim general who has the honor to saw Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the dream.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) came in his dream

Eight hundred years ago it was a peaceful night in Damascus in the year 1162 AD. He had just gone to bed after completing his midnight prayers. The same saint came into his dream again and again and asking to protect against the evil of the two men. He immediately called his noble vizier and shared his dream the vizier advised him to keep the matter undisclosed and immediately head off to Madinah.

Sultan Noor Ad-Din wants to Distribute Gifts

When arrived in Madinah Munawara after traveling for 16 days. He performed Ghusl outside the city and then entered the city. He performed Nawafil in Riaz-ul-Jannah, presented himself at Rawdah-e-Rasool (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and sat inside the Masjid.

All residents of Madinah were called informing them the Sultan has arrived and wants to distribute gifts and offer water to thirsty people. When the people of Madinah asked the reason to arrival in Madinah he said that we have just come here to live in the neighborhood of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Sultan kept a careful eye on all Attendees

When the sultan Noor Ad-Din reached to Madinah he kept careful eye on all attendees to recognize the face of two men whom Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) had pointed to during his dream, the feast or the distribution of gifts ceremony passed on but all the efforts of identifying those 2 faces which he saw during his dream were wasted and got no result. Read more: After 25 years, Imam of Masjid-e-Nabwi moved back to Prophet’s Mihrab to offer 5 times prayers

He didn’t reveal the Truth

The people of Madinah kept on asking the reason for the arrival again and again but he didn’t reveal the truth. However, after inquiring so much from the crowd that no one has been left in the party and all the people living in the city are actually present, suddenly few people from the crowd reminded the Sultan that there are 2 noble and quite religious people are left and are not here in the party that Sultan organized.

Result of Further Inquiry

Upon further inquiry by the Sultan, the people said that there are 2 very noble and pious guys who always devote their time in the worship of Almighty Allah and they always sit in front of the Grave of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

Sultan Got Surprised

It was quite surprising for the Sultan that when he came to know about two western people staying near the Grave of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). They had public reputations of being very good and pious who purely devoted themselves to the prayers all the time.

Sultan Showed His intention to meet these 2 people at their location

Up till this time, the Sultan didn’t reveal anybody of Madinah what was his intention and what he actually was looking for. The Sultan said that he wishes to meet these 2 Noblemen and wants to greet them. He went there and he met with these 2 Men who seemed quite devoted in their prayings.

Sultan Greeted them and while talking to them, he kept on observing their surroundings and all of a sudden, the Sultan found a mat laid on the floor which he found suspicious while talking to these 2 Men he actually removed that Mat, everyone was shocked when the Mat was removed.

After removing the Mat, everyone standing there saw that there was a tunnel that was leading to the Roza (Grave) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

What these 2 Men actually used to do & What was their purpose?

Everyone including the Sultan got surprised and then most of the people came to know the purpose as to why the Sultan Visited Madinah and kept on asking about all the people attending the party organized by him. The two men being very pious, they regularly used to visit Jannat al Baqee graveyard and would generously spend in charity during the droughts years.

The two men revealed that they were Christian agents and they sent them here and funded for a special mission by Christin kings to enter Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) grave and take him & his 2 companions (Abu Bakr & Omer Farooq) bodies’ away. The accursed men used to dig the tunnel at the night time and would fill the waterskins of soil and throw it in the graveyard. Sultan Noor Ad-Din Protected Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) grave

The Sultan infuriated by the plot, had those evil spies executed. Under his order, a channel dug around the grave of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and filled with molten copper to protect his grave from any further mischievous attempts forever. The Earth Shake when they reached near the grave of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

When the men reached near the grave of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم), the sky shivered and a severe earthquake struck. Sultan Noor Ad-Din reached Madinah Munawara the next morning. Once their crime was proven, Sultan ordered them to be beheaded.

Moreover, he got the ground dug around the blessed Rawdah to the level of water and poured molten lead into it so that no one could attempt any such evil act ever again.
