Why Segregation between Men and Women for prayer in Masjid?

Normally men and women while praying in the Masjid ensure that they pray at the right place allocated for Men and Women separately in the Masjid of their home country or in case if they are praying in Masjid-e-Haram.

Now a days we find that either in Masjid of your home country or Haram Masjid Makkah, there are separations for the Women specially and they sit and pray in that area during any prayer.

This kind of partition separates them from Man and all the women pray together at one place.

What Imam of Haram (Makkah) commented on this issue of partition during prayers?

Recently Sheikh Adil Al-Kalbani commented on the separation of Man and Woman in the Haram Masjid through partition, he said that the Men and Women not to be separated using a partition during the prayers.

Imam said such partition never happened during the era of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

He further commented that this current practice of segregating men and women through partition in the Haram Masjid (Makkah) have actually no roots in Islamic tradition and are just the consequences of the unjustified “paranoia” of women, even during the prayer. Imam SAID “Sadly today we are paranoid even in a Mosque as well which is a place of worship

 He further said that “Sadly today, we are paranoid — in a mosque — a place of worship. Currently, the women are completely separated from men, they cannot see them and can only hear them through microphones or speakers. And if the voice is being cut off due to malfunctioning of any electronic instrument, they wouldn’t know what is going on (during prayer).

How people used to pray during the period of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)?

He also said that “In the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) era, and they are the most protective and God-fearing people. With all these traits, the men used to pray in the front and women prayed in the back of the mosque without a partition, not even a curtain. And today, it is a separated room, some even far from the original Prophet’s Mosque area, I believe this is some type of phobia toward women.”

No issue in calling a woman by her name

While discussing the separation of men and women issue through curtains in the Haram Masjid, He also commented on the issue whereby some conservative men have in calling a woman by her name.

“Our daughters or sisters are no better than Aisha bint Abu Bakr (wife of the Prophet) — or the rest.

All the Muslim women’s names are known and their fathers’ names are known. And they have given so much to society and the Ummah. It never harmed them that people knew their names.”
