Heaving fines on sharing fake news

The activity of spreading fake news is considered quite immoral. The fake news affects public order, religions and public moral values. Furthermore, it raises concern on security issues as well and becomes a significant crime.

The punishment announced for such activity is the levy of a fine up to SR.3million and 5-year imprisonment in jail.


Cyber-crime Law:

Furthermore, Article6 of the Cyber-crimes Regulations clearly restricts from spreading such news. It states a maximum penalty of SR 3 million and 5-year jail imprisonment or both together can be levied.

Any person preparing and sharing electronically fake materials shall be subject to the same fine of SR 3 Million, 5-year Jail for sharing fake news. (i.e. WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and etc).
