Saudi Arabia Temporarily Suspends Iftar Service in Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid-e-Nabwi)

Ramadan is the biggest festivity of the year. People participate whole-heartedly. Where Mosques are decorated with lights, people arrange special buffets for poor people and other fasting Muslims for Allah’s sake. It is a beautiful month where everyone is busy helping and caring for one another while bestowing themselves for Allah’s mercy. The two Holy Mosques have the honor of the largest buffet in the world.

Every year, where the number of fasting people increases, the number of people willing to arrange buffets increases as well. However, with the current pandemic all over the world, social distancing is preferred which lead down to closure of Mosques, educational and working institutes.

However, initially it was thought that everything might end by Ramadan but with one week left and drastic toll of affected people The Ministry of Islamic Affairs officially announced that Taraweeh and Eid prayer is suspended until the end of Coronavirus pandemic. Suspension of Ramadan Buffet in Holy Grand Mosque

According to the Masjid-e-Nabwi’s administration,

The Iftar buffet will not be arranged during the Holy mosque in the month of Ramadan. This decision has been taken as a precaution to avoid new corona virus.

Why did the Administration Honored the Gentlemen in his Statement?

According to the local newspaper, the administration of the Mosque Nabawi Sharif honored the gentlemen who were willing to participate in the Iftar buffet saying,

We realize that you gentlemen were willing to arrange Iftar Buffet with the intention of reward in the month of goodwill. We want to bring to your knowledge that the program of Iftar Dastar Khawan (Buffet) has been temporarily suspended during the month of Ramadan in the year 1441 AH. The decision has been taken in view of the circumstances created by the Corona epidemic.



Who were these Gentlemen who were Suppose to Arrange Iftar Buffet?

According to the laws of the grand mosque, it is mandatory for the people willing to arrange Iftar buffets to take permission from the Holy Mosques administration which is registered only at the beginning of the month of Sha’baan. What is Present in the Iftar Buffets?

In the inner courtyard of Masjid-e-Nabwi, certain items are allowed that include,

  • Dates.
  • Cucumbers.
  • Yogurt.
  • Linseed.
  • Special breads.

Whereas, in the outer courtyard of the mosque, other items are also allowed in the buffet.



A large number of people from abroad are also take part in arranging these Iftar buffets in the month of Ramadan. Since the situation is not under control everything is temporarily banned. We hope everything will be restored as soon as possible. Till then, stay tuned with us.
