Coronavirus in Saudi Arabia

Taraweeh Prayers to be Performed in the 2 Holy Mosques During Ramadan

Coronavirus has made sure to change the systems of the world. The economic market, the trading system, the communication everything is locked amidst the current situation. People are only looking forward to save their lives and protect themselves from the lethal virus. However, Muslims are a bit tensed looking at the current situation as one of the holiest month, Ramadan is just few days ahead.

Where in the previous years the preparations were grand for the Ramadan, this year it seems like the festivity will be locked as well. Saudi Arabia announced previously that no Taraweeh or even Eid prayer will be conducted in the country’s Mosque.

However the recent statement has clarified that the two Holy Mosques are exception in this case. What more was briefed in the meeting? Scroll below to read the complete insights of the meeting.

Taraweeh Prayer will be Shortened in the 2 Holy Mosques

The head of the Masjid-ul-Haram and the head of the Mosque Nabwi administration, Shaykh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sadees briefed the public that Taraweeh prayer will be conducted in the two holy mosques however, it will be shortened to 10 Rakats.

Can everyone go to the Holy Mosques to Offer Taraweeh?

According to the local newspapers, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sadis clarified that irrespective of conducting Taraweeh prayer, the ban on worshipers in both mosques will remain as it is.

  1. Umrah will remain suspended until further notice.
  2. Total Rakats of Taraweeh will be reduced from 20 to 10.
  3. Two Imams to lead Taraweeh (First 6 Rakats by 1st Imam and Last 4 Rakats and Witr by 2nd Imam).
  4. Length of the Qunoot Dua to be shortened.
  5. Khatam Al-Quran will be done on Night 29 in the night prayer (Tahajjud).

Will Seclusion (Itikaf) be Conducted in the 2 Holy Mosques?

According to the 10-point agenda regarding Ramadan it has been clearly told by the general presidency of Masjid al-Haram and Masjid-un-Nabwi that as a precautionary measure, there will be no seclusion (Itikaf) during Ramadan this year.

Ration Distribution Instead of Iftar Buffets in 2 Holy Mosques

According to the Saudi news agency SPA, Dr. Al-Sadis also inaugurated the distribution of Ramadan Iftar rations in both holy cities with the help of the Governors of Mecca. As we have briefed earlier in our previous article that Ramadan buffets were suspended this year therefore to continue the generosity of the gentlemen, the needy families who are affected by corona pandemic will be served with Ramadan rations.

What are Other Important Points of the 10-point Ramadan Agenda?

Other important points set forth by the Ministry include the online lectures to deliver the religious sermons to the members of sacred mosques around the world. Digital technology will be used to spread the message from Masjid al-Haram and Masjid-e-Nabwi throughout the world.

It is unfortunate for the Muslim Ummah to see the empty Mataf and simple Ramadan without the basic essence of festivity. But it is equally important to serve the needy people and pray to Allah for the eradication of this disease. It is our duty to take care of the needy people around us and support them so they can spend their Ramadan happily. May we all stay protected from the deadly disease.
